The Solution for Cavities & Damaged Teeth
Tooth decay is a very common problem, but it is also quite serious. Left untreated, tooth decay will ultimately progress and permanently destroy what was once a healthy tooth. The good news is that the cavities (holes) caused by tooth decay can often be remedied with a simple solution: dental fillings. Once the decay is removed and the filling is in place, your restored tooth will look and feel just like a natural tooth, not to mention it will halt the progression of decay in its tracks.
As previously mentioned, dental fillings address cavities caused by tooth decay. Fillings may also be a useful treatment for patients with bad habits like chewing ice, nail biting, or chronic tooth grinding. Fillings are a good option to repair the damage these problems cause. Even a small cavity can progress to a much more serious condition in the future, eventually leading to tooth loss that requires much more intensive restorative dental work. We seek to prevent these issues from happening in the first place.
The Dental Filling Process
If you are a good candidate for fillings, this is the process of how they are placed:
- Numbing medication is administered to the gums under the affected tooth
- Tooth decay is removed
- Bonding agent is applied
- Applied materials are hardened with a light
- Shaping, smoothing, and polishing finishes the process of the dental filling
